The Health and Social Care We Want
Building a fairer and more balanced relationship between people and the Health and Social Care services they use.
Too few people know their rights, what they can reasonably expect from services, or how they can play their own part in staying well and that is why Llais is leading The Health and Social Care We Want: a national conversation about creating clearer, fairer and more person-centred services.
Our Aim
We want to make it easier for people to:
- Know and understand their rights
- Know what to expect from health and social care services
- Know the part they have to play in their own health and care
At the same time, we want to support services to better meet people’s needs by listening to real experiences and using what they hear to make things better. It’s about building trust, reducing confusion and creating services that work for everyone.
How you can help
Your support is important in helping us reach communities, gathering views and understanding what’s working, what’s not, and what matters most.
You can get involved in a number of ways, including:
- Completing our national survey
- Book a 1:1 conversation with us
- Host your own conversation with your community or group with the help of our self-facilitation pack
- Attend a Llais event
- Contact us directly: [email protected]
We would greatly appreciate if you could share on your channels – and any of your partner channels!

This session will provide an overview of the project, as well as providing you with the tools to have meaningful conversations to inform the project and help people to 'have their say'.
We Want: Open online session
12:00-13:00 - 7th August 2025
An interactive online session for people and organisations across Wales who want to discuss the health and social care systems we want. This session will provide an overview of the project, as well as providing you with the tools to have meaningful conversations to inform the project and help people to 'have their say'.
We Want: Learning disabilities
10:00-11:00 - 20th August 2025
In this session we invite people with learning disabilities and the people and organisations who support them to join us for a look at our project. In this session we will look at how our engagement activities and tools can be adapted to help people with learning disabilities take part and have their say on what they would like health and social care to look like in the future, and to share their stories of using and accessing health and social care services in the past.
We Want: Women's health
11:00-12:00 - 27th August 2025
We know that women's health issues are more likely to be dismissed or misdiagnosed and therefore, we wanted to hold a dedicated women's health session to create space for such health inequalities to be discussed and represented within our project. If you are interested in women's health or an organisation supporting women then this session will give you an overview of what our project aims to achieve and how you can engage women in meaningful conversations about health and social care so that their voices can be represented within our project findings.
We Want: Unpaid carers
10:30-11:30 - 3rd September 2025
We know that carers face poorer health outcomes including increased levels of stress and low mood and unreliable social care services, and that is why we want to make sure that their voices are represented in our project. We are conscious that carers may face restrictions on when they are able to engage with us that fit around their caring responsibilities. We are holding a dedicated online session to provide a remote opportunity for carers to connect with us and to find out how they can have their say on the future of health and social care across Wales. We also want to connect with organisations that work closely with carers to share our self-facilitation guide as a tool for them to be able to engage carers in meaningful conversation about health and social care, and to feedback their contributions to us.
We Want: Children & young people
17:00-18:00 - 10th September 2025
In this session we invite children and young people and the organisations who support them to join us for a look at our project. In this session we will look at how our engagement activities and tools can be adapted to help children and young people take part and have their say on what health and social care means to them, and what they would like health and social care to look like in the future.
