Reflections: Creating an Anti-Racist Wales Conference

NEWS 17 November 2025

In October, we attended the ‘Creating an Anti-Racist Wales Conference’ in Cardiff, hosted by Policy Insights. The conference brought together organisations from the public, private and third sectors as well as leaders and advocates from across the country.

We heard from a range of speakers about the importance of continuing to be actively anti-racist, emphasising speaking out, allyship and creating safe reporting mechanisms so that we listen to those with lived realities and drive systemic change.

What resonated most for us is the human-centred approach that many advocated for. We are a person-centred organisation, it’s one of our values and it’s something that we strive for every single day as we hear about health and social care from the people of Wales.

Evidence tells us that there are still inequities in both health and social care for minority ethnic communities and other people who are seldom heard. Our ambition is to make sure that we are reaching and amplifying those voices to ensure that we can understand what works and what doesn’t, using our influence to share good practice or advocate for change with decision-makers.

During Black History Month we reflected on what we have been, and will continue to do, to play our part in creating an anti-racist Wales by 2030.

We know that we can’t do this alone. As we move forward and embed anti-racist and inclusive practices across our organisation we will continue to deepen our relationships with ethnic minority-led organisations.

After the conference, we repeat our commitment: we remain grounded in our purpose to ensure that every voice is heard and valued, and that dignity and fairness are at the heart of health and social care in Wales.
