Llais winter care event in Swansea

On Thursday 23 October 2025, our Neath Port Talbot and Swansea team hosted a public forum on winter care at the Collaboration Station in Swansea.

Over 70 people joined us; connecting people, professionals and local groups to share information and talk about health and social care in the region.

We heard from speakers representing Swansea Bay University Health Board, the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust, the Immunisation Team, and integrated leads for Homefirst, Discharge Planning, and Reablement. Topics included urgent and emergency care goals, ambulance waiting times, winter vaccinations, and how services are working together to support safe hospital discharge.

After the presentations, we held round-table discussions that highlighted what people felt was working well and what needed improvement in the region.

 We heard praise

  • Fast ECG services in same-day care
  • The Waiting Well Service and dementia hubs
  • Breast cancer care in Swansea
  • Compassionate end-of-life care delivered at home

And we heard what people would like to see

  • Difficulty accessing GP appointments
  • Delays in diagnosis and support for endometriosis
  • Barriers to support faced by unpaid carers
  • Lack of inclusivity in emergency departments for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs
  • Poor coordination between health and social care services
  • Limited accessible information from health and social care services

We’ve shared what people told us with the Swansea Bay University Health Board and local authorities and are following up on the issues raised.
