Spotlight on Children’s Mental Health and Neurodevelopmental Services in Cwm Taf Morgannwg
Working in partnership with the Behaviour Support Hub, our Cwm Taf Morgannwg team recently brought together over 130 parents, carers, educators and health and social care professionals for a powerful conversation about Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Neurodevelopmental (ND) support in the region.
We created space to share lived experiences, ask questions, and hear directly from service providers including the Behaviour Support Hub and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
Key issues raised included:
- Gaps in support for neurodivergent children
- Challenges accessing CAMHS services and limited support whilst waiting to access
- Lack of transition planning and support when moving to adult services
- Medication shortages
- Limited support for parent carers
What people told us will now be formally shared with local authorities, the Health Board and Welsh Government to help shape future service delivery and policy development.
Llais’ Regional Director of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg team, Daniel Price, said:
We are really grateful to all who came. It was extremely valuable to have an open and honest discussion about the issues being experienced and to look at how we can co-create solutions for better outcomes for children and young people.
We’re committed to continuing the conversation. A second session will be held early next year focussing on hearing directly from young people aged 11–18.
