Llais welcomes engagement on the future of Meddygfa Sarn
Llais welcomes the Hywel Dda University Health Board’s decision to defer their decision on the future of Meddygfa Sarn in order to allow an eight-week period of engagement with the community.
Meddygfa Sarn is a long-established practice serving a close-knit community, and people have told us how important it is for them to be involved in discussions about changes to local GP services. This engagement period provides an opportunity for the Health Board to explain the challenges it is facing, explore options, and understand the potential impact on patients and the wider community.
Llais will remain independent throughout this process, listening to local people and representing their views to the Health Board.
Meddygfa Sarn is a GP practice serving the Pontyates area. The Health Board has been considering proposals relating to the future provision of GP services following ongoing challenges in sustaining the practice.
Following what Llais heard from patients and the local community, Llais wrote to the Health Board setting out the importance of involving people before any decision was taken.
A paper was subsequently presented to the Public Board, including a recommendation to disperse patients to other practices within the local GP cluster, alongside a proposal for public engagement.
The Board has now agreed to defer a decision and undertake an eight-week period of community engagement.
